The short version

What we collect

If you just visit: We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, and Cloudflare states that it does not collect visitors’ personal data. We don’t use advertising trackers or cookies. A few settings are kept only in your own browser: your light or dark display choice and anything you type into the free printable trackers, which are never sent to us. The invitation link you arrived from, and another reader’s share code if their link brought you, are kept in your browser and sent to us only if you sign in. Until then, we count visits to our links in total, without identifying you. Like any website, our host and the services that deliver parts of a page (the “Available at Amazon” badge comes from Amazon, and the reader’s sign-in code library from jsDelivr) receive your IP address and browser type when your browser loads them.

If you sign in to read (/read):

Your browser also keeps you signed in on that device until you sign out.

If you write to us: your email and what you send us.

About health information

The New Full is a book about bariatric surgery. Because of that, the fact that you signed up, or that you came from a bariatric support group, could suggest something about your health. We treat it as sensitive:

If we’ve gifted you access: we keep your email on a private list so it works when you sign in. If you haven’t signed in within 12 months, we delete it, and you can ask us to remove it anytime.

Emails

Sign-in emails are sent because you asked to sign in. Other emails (news about the book, new material) are sent only if you tick the box to receive them. Every one has an unsubscribe link that works in one click, without signing in, and you can also switch book news emails off in the reader. If you ask us to stop emailing you, we keep your email on a do-not-email list, only so we never write to you again.

Who helps us

We use service providers to run the site and the reader: website hosting and visit counting (Cloudflare), a database and sign-in service, and email delivery. They handle your information only to provide their service to us.

How long we keep it

We keep your reader account while you use it. If we gifted you lifetime access, we keep your reader account while that access lasts. Otherwise, we delete it 12 months after you last sign in, unless you’ve asked us for book news emails. You can delete it yourself at any time. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer.

Your choices and rights

You don’t need to write to us to leave. In the reader, under “Your account”, you can switch book news emails off and use “Delete my account and data”, which removes your email address, reading place and free month from the reader right away. Routine technical logs and our email provider’s sending records expire on their own schedule, and are not used for anything else. After you delete your account, we keep a coded record that the deletion happened (not your email in readable form) for 12 months, so we can confirm it if you ask. If you prefer, or to see or correct your information, write to contact@thenewfull.com and we’ll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, your state’s law may give you more rights, and we will honor those requests too. We do not respond to “Do Not Track” signals differently, because we don’t track you across sites. No third party collects information about your activity across other websites through our site.

Children

This site is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has signed up, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and tell signed-in readers about important changes.
